Celebrating our 60th anniversary season this 2024-25 season, Sumter Players, Inc. is a volunteer-based community theater organization located in Americus, Georgia. 

 

Our vision is Building Community Through Theatre. We produce four performances a year as well as host a youth theater program (KidsWeek/TeenWeek) each summer. 

 

  Our productions depend on your support. We invite you to attend a show, become a member, or donate your talents, whether onstage or behind the scenes.

THE DETAILS

MEMBERSHIP

The members of Sumter Players, Inc., are those persons who have purchased a season subscription to attend the performances of Sumter Players at prices and on conditions established from time to time by the Board of Directors. Memberships exist for a period of one (1) year and are infinitely renewable by purchasing a season subscription. Everyone residing on Earth is eligible to become a member of Sumter Players, Inc. and receive the benefits listed on the Subscription Page. 

OUR BOARD

The Corporation is governed by a Board of Directors of between eleven (11) and eighteen (18) persons elected by the membership to serve staggered terms of three (3) years each. An annual membership meeting is held in May or June for the election of up to six (6) directors. Officers are elected annually by the Board of Directors at the first Board meeting after the annual membership meeting.

PARTICIPATE

Everyone involved in Sumter Players, its events and projects is an unpaid volunteer. Casting auditions are publicly announced and roles are assigned by the volunteer production director subject only to artistic requirements. Sumter Players welcomes not only performers and backstage talent, but almost any skill -- carpentry, journalism, photography, painting, etc, etc. All interested are invited to contact us or any Board member.

DETAILS

Sumter Players has been Americus' Community Theater since 1965. Sumter Players, Inc. is a Georgia Non Profit Corporation, tax exempt as a public charity under Sec. 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.  Participation is open to everyone without regard to age, gender, color, national origin, race, disability or any other defining characteristic. Except for admission to most productions, there is never a fee to participate in Sumter Players.

Mission

The mission of Sumter Players is to awaken and encourage creativity and self-expression by providing opportunities for engagement in community theatre.
